Reverse Cone titanium tip spindle, medium light weight made in Honduras Rosewood, Redgum & Dymondwood This heirloom quality spindle is a hand made item, designed by Jory Freyee and Malcolm Fielding, and made by Malcolm Fielding in the workshop of TheSpindleshop. This item is in stock and you will receive the item as shown these photos. This heirloom quality spinning tool is an original designed and made by apprentice spindle maker Jory Freyee under the tuition of master craftsman Malcolm Fielding. Your spindle will resemble these images very closely and is in stock. The shaft is made in Dymondwood. This is the perfect material for support spindle shafts as it is strong, durable and will not warp. The whorl is made from an attractively figured piece of rare Honduras Rosewood with a section of Redgum from Queensland in the whorl. The shaft has a delicate curve in to the top point, which is shaped with a slender section where it is flicked then to a well shaped smoothed top point, to allow the yarn to slip the point easily. The bottom point is made from very hard titanium alloy and designed for an effortless long spin and a lifetime of use. A support bowl is needed for using this type of spindle. One of our turned dymondwood-centred spinning surfaces is ideal and these are usually in stock. You can also use glass or ceramic support bowls. Light wood support bowls are not recommended for use with any metal-tip spindle. The spindle is polished with a high shine French polish and a final gloss of carnauba wax adds durability. This spindle style has a long very fast spin and perfect balance. Dimensions - spindle length overall abut 245 mm, (9.75 in), weight about 27 grams (0.96 oz approx). All my spindles are tested before despatch and come with a free sample of fibre.
